Note #008: Acaden Lewis (Two-Way Freshman Impact)

Former Villanova guard Acaden Lewis entered the transfer portal after one year with the Wildcats, and has committed to Miami (FL) for the 2026-27 season.

As a freshman in 2025-26, Lewis averaged 12.2 PPG, 5.3 APG, 3.0 RPG, and 1.9 SPG, while shooting 53.3% from 2 (244 2PA) and 45.8% (340 FGA) overall from the floor.

Here are the other NCAA Division I men's basketball players, since 1953-54, who averaged at least 12 PPG, 5 APG, 3 RPG, 1.5 SPG while shooting at least 50% from 2-point range (min. 240 2PA) and 45% (min. 340 FGA) overall as a freshman:

340-400 FGA
1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2017-18) - 14.4 PPG, 5.1 APG, 4.1 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 50.0 2P% (320 2PA) and 48.5 FG% (377 FGA)

400-450 FGA
2. Dennis Smith Jr. (2016-17) - 18.1 PPG, 6.2 APG, 4.6 RPG, 1.9 SPG, 50.9 2P% (267 2PA) and 45.5 FG% (420 FGA)
3. John Wall (2009-10) - 16.6 PPG, 6.5 APG, 4.3 RPG, 1.8 SPG, 50.9 2P% (324 2PA) and 46.1 FG% (438 FGA)
4. Markelle Fultz (2016-17) - 23.2 PPG, 5.9 APG, 5.7 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 50.2 2P% (313 2PA) and 47.6 FG% (439 FGA)

450-500 FGA
5. Kingston Flemings (2025-26) - 16.1 PPG, 5.2 APG, 4.1 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 50.3 2P% (360 2PA) and 47.6 FG% (466 FGA)
6. Danny Ainge (1977-78) - 21.1 PPG, 5.3 APG, 5.8 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 51.4 2P%/FG% (473 2PA/FGA)

500+ FGA
7. Kenny Anderson (1989-90) - 20.6 PPG, 8.1 APG, 5.5 RPG, 2.3 SPG, 54.4 2P% (432 FGA) and 51.5 FG% (549 FGA)

Of note, of six that took 100+ 3PA in their respective season, Lewis was the least efficient (27-100, 27.0%) - the other five:

Flemings - 41/106 3P/3PA, 38.7%
Wall - 37/114 3P/3PA, 32.5%
Anderson - 48/117 3P/3PA, 41.0%
Fultz - 52/126 3P/3PA, 41.3%
Smith Jr. - 55/153 3P/3PA, 35.9%

Barely missing the cut was 2007 NBA Draft 19th overall pick Javaris Crittenton, who as a freshman in 2006-07 met all Lewis baselines except the 2P% threshold:

14.4 PPG, 5.8 APG, 3.7 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 45.0 FG% on 351 FGA and 48.8 2P% on 250 2PA

He entered the draft after his lone season at Georgia Tech.

I also wanted to include 1990 NBA Draft 2nd overall pick Gary Payton so I'm going to: as a freshman in 1986-87 (12.5 PPG, 7.6 APG, 4.0 RPG, 1.9 SPG) he was just shy on qualifying FGA (333, 45.9%), and missed on 2P% (47.0, 298 2PA).

We also mentioned Fultz and Anderson in Note #003 about 2026 NBA Draft prospect Keaton Wagler.

Besides Lewis and Flemings, only one other NCAA Division I freshman men's basketball player averaged at least 12 PPG, 5 APG, 3 RPG, 1.5 SPG in 2025-26:

Portland's Joel Foxwell - 15.6 PPG, 6.5 APG, 4.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG

Foxwell entered the transfer portal after playing one year with the Pilots, committing to Arizona State for 2026-27.
