Note #021: Robert Wright III (Dynamic Guard Genes)
BYU guard Robert Wright III, formerly of Baylor, is returning to Provo in 2026-27 after playing his 2025-26 sophomore season with the Cougars.
In 2025-26, Wright III averaged 18.1 PPG, 4.6 APG, and 3.5 RPG, while shooting 46.7% from the floor on 488 shot attempts (13.9 FGA/G).
Three other NCAA Division I men's basketball players, since 1980-81, averaged at least 18 PPG, 4.5 APG, 3.5 RPG while shooting 46.5+ FG% on 485+ FGA in their sophomore season:
1. Allen Iverson (1995-96) - 25.0 PPG, 4.7 APG, 3.8 RPG, 48.0 FG% (650 FGA)
2. Ja Morant (2018-19) - 24.5 PPG, 10.0 APG, 5.7 RPG, 49.9 FG% (531 FGA)
3. Labaron Philon (2025-26) - 22.0 PPG, 5.0 APG, 3.5 RPG, 50.1 FG% (485 FGA)
Additionally, only two other NCAA Division I sophomores in 2025-26 besides Wright III and Philon averaged at least 18 PPG, 4.5 APG, 3.5 RPG:
1. Tyler Tanner - 19.5 PPG, 5.1 APG, 3.6 RPG
2. Christian Anderson - 18.5 PPG, 7.4 APG, 3.6 RPG
The other two NCAA Division I men's basketball players since 1980-81, besides Wright III and the aforementioned Anderson (41.5 3PT%, 108/260), to average at least 18 PPG, 4.5 APG, 3.5 RPG while shooting 41.0+% from 3 on 135+ 3PA as a sophomore are:
1. Tony Carr (2017-18) - 19.6 PPG, 5.0 APG, 4.9 RPG, 43.3 3PT% (88/203)
2. Ben Gordon (2002-03) - 19.5 PPG, 4.7 APG, 4.2 RPG, 41.9 3PT% (80/191)
