Note #023: Dwayne Aristode (Efficient Freshman Hybrid)

Former Arizona Wildcat Dwayne Aristode entered the transfer portal following his 2025-26 freshman season in Tucson, committing to Oregon for 2026-27.

In 2025-26, Aristode registered 11.5 PTS/40 MP (in 13.3 MP/G, 35 GP). He did not have incredible volume (2.7 FGA/G), but shot an efficient 46.2% from 3 (30/65) and 54.8% from 2 (17/31).

Since 1980-81, the other five NCAA Division I men's players to notch 11.5+ PTS/40 MP while shooting at least 46% from 3 (min. 65 3PA) and 54% from 2 (min. 30 2PA) as a freshman (min. 30 GP) are:

100-150 FGA
1. John Leahy (1991-92) - 13.6 PTS/40 MP (20.7 MP/G), 56.1 3P% (46/82) and 55.3 2P% (21/38) on 120 FGA
2. Phil Booth (2014-15) - 16.1 PTS/40 MP (14.5 MP/G), 48.5 3P% (32/66) and
64.5 2P% (40/62) on 128 FGA
3. Darin Smith Jr. (2024-25) - 15.1 PTS/40 MP (18.1 MP/G), 46.3 3P% (37/80) and 58.0 2P% (40/69) on 149 FGA

150-330 FGA
4. Reed Sheppard (2023-24) - 17.2 PTS/40 MP (28.9 MP/G), 52.1 3P% (75/144) and 55.5 2P% (66/119) on 263 FGA

330+ FGA

5. Jaycee Carroll (2004-05) - 19.3 PTS/40 MP (30.4 MP/G), 47.6 3P% (79/166) and 57.0 2P% (94/165) on 331 FGA

Aristode (6' 8"), and listed at guard (per Sports Reference, forward elsewhere), is the tallest of those above. The others:

Smith Jr. - 6' 7" forward
Leahy - 6' 7" forward
Sheppard - 6' 3" guard
Booth - 6' 3" guard
Carroll - 6' 2" guard

🏀
Let's just look at the 2025-26 season, and deeper into Aristode's 3-point shooting (46.2%, 30/65).

Only two other NCAA Division I freshmen in 2025-26 shot at least 45% from 3 on 65+ 3PA:

1. Andrej Shoshkikj - 45.1 3P% (46/102)
2. Lilian Marville - 52.2 3P% (48/92)

Shoshkikj is a 6' 2" guard, Marville a 6'1" guard.

FWIW, all three have international roots: Aristode (Netherlands), Shoshkikj (North Macedonia), Marville (France)

For fun, if we drop the 3P% threshold down to 43.8, our friends Darius Acuff Jr. (referenced in Note #003 on Keaton Wagler/ Note #010 on Alex Wilkins) and Note #006 feature Jake Hall would be the others to make the list:

1. Jake Hall - 43.8 3P% (117/267)
2. Darius Acuff, Jr. - 44.0 3P% (91/207)
