Note #031: Jamier Jones (Freshman Gamebreaker)

Former Providence Friar Jamier Jones entered the transfer portal after his freshman 2025-26 season, committing to Missouri for 2026-27.

In 2025-26, Jones appeared in 28 games and shot 123/206 from 2 (59.7%), 12/31 from 3 (38.7%) and 87/131 from the FT line (66.4%).

Since 1980-81, there have been 74 NCAA Division I men's basketball players to register a 59+ 2P% (min. 200 2PA), 38+ 3P% (min. 30 3PA), and 65+ FT% (min. 130 FTA) in a single season. Of those 74, only two were freshmen (!)

One was Jones, the other was:

Cameron Boozer (2025-26) - 236/384 2P/2PA (61.5%), 54/138 3P/3PA (39.1%), 221/280 FT/FTA (78.9%)

Yes, in the last 45+ years only two freshmen have met the above shooting thresholds, and both did it in 2025-26.

Three others besides Jones and Boozer, in 2025-26 (all classes), met those same splits above:

Senior
1. Bruce Thornton - 175/273 2P/2PA (64.1%), 62/155 3P/3PA (40.0%), 141/170 FT/FTA (82.9%)

Junior

2. Jack Karasinski - 141/207 2P/2PA (68.1%), 71/171 3P/3PA (41.5%), 155/192 FT/FTA (80.7%)

Sophomore
3. Blake Barkley - 144/228 2P/2PA (63.2%), 18/47 3P/3PA (38.3%), 126/150 FT/FTA (84.0%)

Even if we remove the FT requirements entirely, Jones and Boozer are still the only two freshmen who qualify (59+ 2P% on 200+ 2PA, 38+ 3P% on 30+ 3PA) in 2025-26.

Since 1980-81, only five other freshmen outside of Jones and Boozer have met the above 2P and 3P shooting baselines:

57-58 FG%
1. Jess Settles (1993-94) - 140/230 2P/2PA (60.9%), 16/42 3P/3PA (38.1%)

58-60 FG%
2. John Konchar (2015-16) - 134/213 2P/2PA (62.9%), 29/66 3P/3PA (43.9%)
3. Trip Day (2017-18) - 129/205 2P/2PA (62.9%), 22/53 3P/3PA (41.5%)

60+ FG%
4. Marvin Bagley III (2017-18) - 247/382 2P/2PA (64.7%), 23/58 3P/3PA (39.7%)
5. TJ Leaf (2016-17) - 208/323 2P/2PA (64.4%), 27/58 3P/3PA (46.6%)

The Cameron Boozer freshman 2025-26 season is everywhere all at once (all CB references).

Thornton appears in Note #027 on new Gonzaga center Massamba Diop.

We've seen Konchar (
Note #007: Isaac Celiscar, Note #012: Eian Elmer) before, too.
